Winnipeg Housing Rehabilitation Corporation – Assistant Controller (Full-time)

Winnipeg Housing Rehabilitation Corporation is a charitable non-for-profit corporation that manages rental units and develops safe and affordable housing for low and modest income individuals and families within the city. We are currently seeking for an exuberant individual to join our team as the Assistant Controller. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will perform a variety of day-to-day accounting functions, month-end closing processes, and assist with monthly financial statements.


The position is ideal for an individual pursuing a professional accounting designation and is currently enrolled in the mid to later stages of CPA PREP or of equivalent competency. Additionally, the candidate will also satisfy the followings requirements:

  • 1 to 3 years’ experience in full cycle accounting or of experience in a similar role
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office; specifically a mastery in Excel
  • Self-starter, driven, go-getter and detailed oriented (Training and growth development is available to the selected candidate)
  • Proven organization skills to prioritize tasks effectively, shift priorities and manages time efficiently to meet various tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Proven to be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in communication skills, both written and verbal


  • Knowledge in the subsidized housing for the not-for-profit sector
  • Knowledge with the Residential Tenancies Act and the Manitoba Condominium Act
  • Familiar with Spectra (Property management software)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full cycle accounting
  • Monthly financial statements reporting and internal reports
  • Account reconciliations and expenditure monitoring including error follow-up and correction
  • Variance analysis, project costing and budget control
  • Assist with year-end audits
  • Monitor and assist with accounts payable and receivable
  • Bank reconciliation and/or accounting for cash receipts
  • Monitor internal controls and compliance with internal policies
  • General IT support and ad hoc duties

Closing date: June 19, 2020

Hours: 35 hours per week (Indefinite Full-time Term Position)

Wage: $23.55 per hour
