Tristan Cleveland grew up in Saint Margaret’s Bay, Nova Scotia, and studied urban planning at McGill. He is an advocate of making cities more livable through coordinating development with active and sustainable transportation. He believes a much wider public should and can be involved in creating the city they want to live in. In 2017, he co-founded a research consultancy, Smarter Streets, that analyzes the relationship between built form, transportation, and prosperity. Tristan has pioneered research that helped municipalities such as Fort Saskatchewan and Prince Edward Island understand the costs of their infrastructure and where to maximize the impact of infrastructure investment.

He writes a weekly column with Star Halifax on issues related to urban design, transportation, and equity. He also writes for the Jean Monnett Health Law & Policy Network on the connection between the built environment and health. He holds a Master’s Degree from the McGill School of Urban Planning and is a PhD candidate at Dalhousie University.

Tristan will be speaking from 11:30am-12:15pm on October 15. He will also participate in a more public, networking event the same day at the Prairie Firehouse in Brandon from 6-8:30pm (speaking at 7pm). Download the poster
